This family friendly, slow cooker beef casserole is a go-to in our house. I tailored the recipe to suit a baby/toddlers palete – with melt in the mouth meat, and onions and carrots which are diced or grated so the final sauce is quite smooth!

Slow cooker recipes are great when you have a busy day ahead – a few moments of prep in the morning is so worth it when you get home later that day!

This slow cooker beef stew can be frozen in individual toddler/kid sized portions to make future meals a bit easier, or eaten and enjoyed by the whole family, too!

A delicious, kid friendly beef stew made with carrots, onions and lean beef. Perfect served with mash or chips!

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 500g lean braising steak
  • 2 carrots
  • 1/2 onion
  • 2 tsp lazy garlic or 2 garlic cloves
  • 3 tbsp plain flour (can be gluten free)
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Begin by dicing the onion into fine little pieces, and peeling and grating the carrot
  2. If the beef isn't already choped into bitesized pieces, do that now
  3. Then, heat oil in a large non-stick pan
  4. Add in the onions and carrots - and allow to cook for a 3 minutes, or until the onion is beginning to soften and brown a little
  5. Then, add in the beef and garlic - stir to combine everything and then cook until the beef is no longer pink on the outside
  6. Next, add in the flour and stir - this will thicken the sauce and absorb some of the oil in the pan
  7. Then, turn off the heat - pour in the remainder of the ingredients, stir to combine
  8. Transfer it all to the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours, medium for 6 or high for 4
  9. Once cooked, if the sauce is thinner than you'd like - add in a tbsp of gravy granules to thicken the sauce
  10. Then serve and enjoy!
