Party bag ideas for a first birthday party

by helen

Planning a first birthday party? Often, this’ll be the first of it’s kind you’ve done – and you want it to feel special! When planning our sons first birthday we wanted to gift party bags – but getting inspriation for what to put in them, when most of his friends were also one of younger – provded quite tough (as, the tiny toys youd expect are still a choking hazard at this age).

Below are some of the ideas we thought of / went with for our ons birthday party bags – and we had so many lovely comments back from recipients!

The bags

We got small colourful paper bags from B&M, I’d also seen them in The Card Factory, too. The leftover bags make lovely gift bags for upcoming birthdays and events, too. I chose to write the name of each kid attending on their own bags – which felt a nice touch!

Small books

You can often get backs of mini books in places like B&M, they tend to contain 4-5 small books and cost roughly £1 per book. The works also have an offer of 10 books for £10

Age appropriate snacks

Age appropriate snacks – as we’ve only done party bags for our sons 1st birthday so far, we chose to pop some ‘baby’ snacks in the bags – so banana puffs and oat bars. We had some slightly older kids attend too, who got a bag of pom bears and a small kinder chocolate bar in their bags.

Cake?

At this age, the one year olds didn’t eat cake – but we did pop a piece of cake into each party bag for the parents to enjoy when they got home (and so we didn’t have a full birthday cake to bring home with us haha)
